Tyler's BIRTH Day!!

Two years ago today brought quite a surprise. I had been doing Non-Stress Tests (NSTs) 2-3 times/week because Ty's heartrate was sitting around 100bpm. (Normal is 120-150 or so). Luke had passed away a few months earlier, so I was having a hard time keeping my stress level down. This in turn, was effecting Tyler. The docs decided to deliver him at 36 weeks because at that point he was probably safer out than in.

Friday
- Doc called to let me know C-Section was scheduled for the 10th (Luke & Logan's birthday!)
- I called to let everyone know the plan and that thankfully Baby wouldn't come on June 6, 2006. (I'm not very superstitious, but that seemed a little risky).

Monday
- Went in for an NST and during a contraction (I get those a ton when I'm pregnant) Ty's heartrate dropped to 80 bpm. I left after being reassured that the docs would call me if they felt I needed to deliver sooner than Saturday.
- No phone call, but I was WORRIED. I prayed most of the night for peace, as well as for the doctors to know and plan accordingly if Tyler needed to deliver sooner than Saturday. I couldn't bear the thought of losing another child, and I was terrified something would happen while he was still inside me- especially because I knew he'd likely survive if he was outside.

Tuesday
- Phone rings at 8am
Doc: We're gonna have you come in today and deliver. When can you be here?
In my head: WHAT?!?! Huge rush or relief- the Lord heard my prayer, and the doctors were inspired to listen. I knew I was in good hands.
Me: Ummm- let me call my husband- it'll take him a half-hour to get home and an hour for us to get to the hospital, so I suppose 10? (**I have a tendency to think things through out loud when I'm thrown off...also you can tell we lived WAY out in the sticks ha ha ha...or rather sand and rocks...)
Doc: Let's plan to meet at the hospital around 12. Don't eat anything.
In my head: Good thing I didn't eat breakfast yet! You can't know how much I love food though to make such a request.
Me: Sounds great! Thanks!!

After a prayer of thanks, I got to give James 'the call.' "HONEY COME HOME!! We're having the baby TODAY!" Some girls get to wait for their water to break...I get to wait for a phone call! ha ha ha

I had 4 hours to make all the preparations happen that I had planned to do over the next four days. For some reason all I remember is a trip to Wal-Mart- I'm not even sure why. I also remember calling my mom right after I talked to James and she said she'd be there as soon as she could. (She had to fly in- about a 3 hour flight, and lives 3 hours from the airport, but still made it by 5 or so that day- I swear she has connections with someone at the airport, because she was there in RECORD time!) Logan went to play with his good friends, the Potterf girls, who were staying up near the hospital until Nonna came.
I remember thinking how cute James looked in his scrubs, and also being scared to have a c-section. I'd never had a surgery before! It all went fairly quickly- Tyler came out and looked just like Luke. I flipped out, and poor James missed cutting the cord for the 3rd time. (He didn't get to do the boys' either). All I remember after that was James saying, "Can we give her something? She's kind of flipping out over here" and then I remember waking up in this little recovery room because they said I had a phone call. (Good times, Laura- good times!)

I was taken to see Tyler shortly after that, and Mom & Logan were there already. I'm so lucky to have James take care of all the important things- you know, like the brand new baby- when I flip out and have to be knocked out. :-) And there you have it- my beautiful baby Tyler was 6 lb 12 oz. (Pretty good sized for being 4 weeks early...). He's simply a joy- what a blessing to our family!
